At Kusumkhunti under Koksara Block in Kalahandi district the Sangh runs an Old Age Home namely “Home for Older Persons†since 2012. The project is running in its own building with 25 needy aged persons during the year 2019-20.
10 Awareness generation camps were organised in Khordha & Kalahandi district to mobilize general public, women. Children, handicapped and aged people for their rehabilitation and to avail the opportunities to stand on their own.
The Sangh regularly conducts Screening & Assessment Camps for various categories of disabled people with collaboration of Government and other voluntary organisations in Khordha and Kalahandi Districts.
NSS had started its services for VIMD/ Deafblind / MSI people in Orissa in 1999. It was a challenge for the teachers who are trained in single category to handle the multi-disabled children like deafblind and with additional disabilities in Banpur and its adjoin area. In addition a project on “Services for Children Visually Impairment with Multiple Disabilities†(VIMD) in Kalahandi District in which home based support and follow-up services were provided to the beneficiaries by the part time workers during the period under report. Besides, awareness activities were also under taken to sensitise the people. Mentoring services IEC Materials and TLMs were provided to strengthen the project activities.
i) Children with Mental Retardation (MR):
During the period under report support services were extended to 10 children and referred to different institutions for assessment and rehabilitation.
ii) Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP):
During the year under report 06 children with cerebral palsy (C.P.) were getting service under Home Based programme and Inclusive Education set-up in Khordha and Ganjam districts with the support of family members and educators.
iii) Children with Autism:
During the year under report 05 Children with autism were benefitted by support services in Khordha and Kalahandi district by the Sangh.
During the year under report follow up services was extended to primary and secondary level CWSN spread over different schools in the district of Khordha and Kalahandi. To meet the educational need of the disabled children, necessary TLMs and instructional materials were provided to them. In addition 25 visually impaired including Blind & Low vision children are getting specialised support & follow up services by part time trained teachers in Koksara Block of Kalahandi district.
Follow up services was extended to 07 needy Visually Impaired persons in local areas during the year under report.
A residential School for the Blind is running at Banpur since 1981 with the grant-in-aid of Govt. of Odisha, SSEPD Department with the strength of 36 V.I. students. During this year total 35 students (one left during the session) have been maintained. Free lodging, boarding, uniform, health care and recreational facilities were provided to all students and Education was imparted up to 8th standard along with pre-vocational and vocational training in Music, Candle and Coir doormat making etc. Educational materials/ Equipments like Braille Books & Kits provided for smooth academic performance. Teaching & Non-teaching staff were also participated in the refresher training course conducted by the SSEPD Department during the year under report.
The Sangh often discovers proficiency of the handicapped children in art and painting. NSS is running a centre to give a shape to their creative imagination. A qualified instructor imparts the training. We are very proud of the performance of our children. In many occasions they participated in School/ cluster, Block, District and state level functions and competitions.
The Sangh runs a residential institute for the physically handicapped since 1978 under which a Special School for the Deaf functions for imparting education to the hearing handicapped up to 10th Standard with the grant-in-aid of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India and SSEPD Department, Govt. of Odisha. All total 58 (34 boys & 24 girls) students (Primary- 45 & Secondary-13) were getting education and training during the period under report. The Sangh bears their full maintenance, schooling and medical treatment etc. During this year out of 07, six students appeared in the AHSC examination 2020. Skill formation training was imparted on Cane and Bamboo Craft, Tailoring (Cutting & Sewing) and Wool knitting etc. to the Hearing Impaired students to make them self supported. They perform well like the normal children. Competent instructors are appointed to impart the training utilising the modern tools and equipments. Library and recreational facilities were also provided to the inmates. The Hearing handicapped children perform various folk dances and acrobatics, mono action, dramas with the normal children. Training was imparted in preparation of musical dresses and other decorative articles. They participated in block, district and state level competitions in Sports, Art and Crafts etc. Teachers were also participated in the refresher training course conducted by the SSEPD Deptt., Govt. of Odisha during the year under report.
